Full movie description "Hawaii Five-O The Two-Faced Corpse":A Honolulu businessman is found murdered on a land tract he was trying to develop. The case has all the earmarks of a syndicate hit. Five-O traces the dead man and finds that he was, in fact, a former thug who had testified and gone into the Federal witness protection program. But they find this out so easily that McGarrett begins to suspect that the mob had nothing at all to do with the murder -- someone close to the witness, who knew all about his history, killed him and pinned it on the mob. Suspicion soon falls on the dead man's wife and her lover, who were to be the beneficiaries of a $100,000 insurance policy paid by Uncle Sam if the witness was indeed whacked (the money seems like chump change when you look at the lavish mansion where the dead man lived). McGarrett and the Federal agent overseeing the witness protection program plan in Hawaii, who have often been at odds in the past, begin to collaborate in trying to fool the killer or killers into thinking the mob is after ...
Reviews of the Hawaii Five-O The Two-Faced CorpseThe idea for this episode is very good--and original. However, the show is just too sloppy in its execution--and the ending is just terrible.
The show begins with a man being shot in the back. It's obviously some sort of execution killing. However, the victim turns out to be somebody, as a Federal agent shows up and tries to take jurisdiction from McGarrett--with no explanation as to why. Naturally, this pushes Five-O to dig deeper--to find out why the government wants the case. Eventually, they learn that the dead man was NOT who he appeared to be. He'd had very extensive plastic surgery and had been taking steroids to look like a whole new person. And, it with an odd photo supplied by the man's widow (Jessica Walter), they are able to establish that he'd been a mob informant. But that still doesn't explain the killing, as how would the syndicate figure out it was him in the first place? McGarrett has a crazy theory that perhaps it ISN'T a mob killing but that the dead man's wife and business partner (Sam Elliott) killed the man. But it's only a theory--and there really is no proof that this is the case. So far, so good. But, to crack the case, they set up a sting--one that really makes no sense. And, it's up to these characters to suddenly behave VERY stupidly and incriminate themselves! As I said, this is a sloppy episode. Relying on the criminals who are very smart to suddenly become VERY stupid and incriminate themselves when there really isn't reason to is just bad writing. As is the photo that is purported to be 15 years old--with a group of football players with haircuts circa 1974! Not a crew-cut or short hair among them (apart from the bald guy).
Great plot idea--dumb execution. It's very watchable...yet very poor compared to most episodes.
